Can This Peptide Serum Really Replace Botox?
The short answer: No. The long answer: My fav dermatologist is on her fourth bottle.
The Beauty Ed® Note: With 27+ years in beauty - from directing unretouched shoots at Boots UK to founding The Beauty Ed® - I’ve seen every “miracle” trend come and go. My verdict on “Botox in a bottle” is about skin health, over “freezing” time. For more on navigating midlife beauty, check out The 40+ Project or listen to my podcast, Smiling Gives You Wrinkles®.
A quick edit: Award-winning Beauty Editor Donna Francis and Consultant Dermatologist 44-year-old Dr. Justine Kluk give their expert review of the "Botox in a bottle" trend, and admit that while topical serums like SkinCeuticals P-TIOX cannot paralyze muscles, their advanced peptide formulas can mimic the "reflective" glow of injectables, making them a powerful non-invasive tool for "juicy" midlife skin.

When I sat down with my favorite, not to mention my most trusted consultant dermatologist, Dr. Justine Kluk, for the latest episode of Smiling Gives You Wrinkles, I was surprised when she confessed that she was obsessed with a peptide serum that claims to be ‘Botox in a bottle.’
The Skeptic’s U-Turn
When SkinCeuticals P-TIOX first launched, just like me, Justine was the first to roll her eyes.
“The whole beauty and dermatologist world were like, nonsense. Rubbish. [And] I was like, here we go again, Botox in a bottle. And so out of principle, I did not touch the product to begin with.”
So, what changed? Curiosity got the better of Justine, and when she tested the product, she said that the results were undeniable - just not in the way the marketing suggested.
It’s Not About “Freezing”
The term ‘Botox in a bottle’ is catchy, but it’s misleading. Botox works by temporarily paralyzing the muscle. A serum works on the surface. But according to Justine, the magic of these new-age peptide complexes (like the hexapeptides that is found in P-TIOX) is how they change the quality of the skin.
“What I did notice about it was that it made the condition of my skin look really good, smooth and glowy... it really helps with the rest of my evening routine. My skin is less dry and irritated from using my retinoid... it’s kind of like a nice little helping hand.”
The “Juicy” Factor
We talked a lot about the “deflated balloon” feeling that hits in your 40s (I’m 49, Justine is 44 - we get it). While it won’t stop your forehead from moving, Justine finds it gives a “reflective” quality to the skin that mimics the glow of injectables like Profhilo.
“When I put a few drops of it on at nighttime, my skin instantly looks more reflective and glowy. It gives me the same sort of feeling as Profhilo injections - my skin just looks really juicy.”
My Verdict
Is it Botox? No. Should you call it that? Probably not. But is there a new generation of high-tech peptide serums that make your skin look more expensive, more resilient, and juicier.
Justine is on her fourth bottle…so I might just give it a try myself!
